Rachael (Chinonye) works in sustainability services by day and has enjoyed tutoring math and chemistry courses for 10+ years. She started Gaia’s Desk to help expand her educational services to students in need of classroom support.

Ben is currently a PhD candidate in mathematics at the University of Connecticut, specializing in complex differential geometry. As a tutor, he makes every effort to help students understand the deeper connections between abstract concepts and loves seeing their hard work pay off. In his free time, he enjoys playing with his two cats and visiting his girlfriend in the city.

Atef completed his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Minnesota and is currently a PhD student in Computational Biology at the University of California, Los Angeles where he gets to use math and statistics to help study real life biomedical questions. He loves tutoring because he enjoys getting to see how students can connect mathematical concepts to their personal interests; math is everywhere! Outside of his PhD and teaching work, he enjoys running and cycling around Los Angeles, going to concerts, and hosting trivia.

Claudia studied Computer Science at Cornell University and spent 6 years in the technology industry. Her work as a software development consultant helped develop her skills at communicating abstract ideas in understandable ways - this became the foundation of her tutoring philosophy. Claudia takes the time to understand her students so she can discover the most effective ways to communicate concepts. When not empowering students, Claudia enjoys making food for friends, fermenting, climbing rocks, surfing, and being outside.
